Five big trends in home decor

  1. Screen-free rooms: After a long day of using your smartphone and computer, it can feel amazing to come home and take a technology break. More and more, homeowners are creating specific screen-free rooms-perhaps a library, craft room, or listening room-where you can escape from technology for a while. We LOVE this idea!
  2. Upholstered headboards: What if you could feel like you were sleeping in a luxury hotel bed every night? The bedding and mattress are an important part of that experience, but so is the aesthetic and comfort of an upholstered headboard.
  3. Earth tones: Natural colors have become increasingly popular, especially deep greens. It’s a great way to bring some of nature’s colors indoors, whether as an accent wall, in blankets and pillows, or for furniture. We suggest starting with a neutral base and adding a splash of color to liven up your room.
  4. Black stainless steel: If you want a sleek, contemporary kitchen, black stainless steel is even more of a statement than traditional stainless steel.
  5. Patterned fabrics: While solid upholstery will never go out of style, patterns have become trendy of late. It’s an easy way to make a bold, eye-catching statement in your living space. We suggest one or two chairs to be patterned and stick with neutral for the rest of your room with the exception of a couple throw pillows.

Guess what?  It’s Friday! And that means we get to share with you some of our favs!

umbrellas-2-1024x614-300x180CAFE SOL – This is one of our top choices when it comes to lunch for our group of friends. Where do we want to go? CAFE SOL!  This lovely cafe is locally owned and focuses on fresh, natural and organic ingredients. And one of the best parts is they partner with multiple local farmers and offer only colorado made beverages.  We love local and we love Cafe Sol!  We didn’t even get to the part where they have some of the best food in town.  If you haven’t tried this Main St cafe, make sure to grab a couple friends and try it today!  — the beet salad is the BEST!

This jewelry is on the top of the list of things to order. How great is it? As a teenager, Christina saw working at her dad’s jewelry shop as nothing more than a necessary evil for making extra cash. It wasn’t until after college, while working the same ol’ summer job, that she took a shine to the idea of making some creations of her own. Each one is stamped by hand, with a bespectacled Christina carefully ensuring each and every letter is perfectly placed – and she says she’ll keep doing it until glasses no longer do the trick. Fall is here and fall fashion is the best?   Jeans, sweaters, scarfs and boots – what could be better?  The neutral colors this season are stunning on just about any person and mixing textures is key. Check out wachabuy to see some outfits that are easy to put together that we think are on point!

pantone-coloroftheyear2016-rosequarzserenity-moodboard-nordic-italianbarkAccording to Pantone 2016 these are the colors of the season.  Namely ROSE QUARTZ and SERENITY. A color response to the stress of our days with a combination that create feelings of tranquility and balance.  What do you think? We like them especially paired with nude or beige.  094841875-1c359a87-44cb-4443-a285-7a411c4dacfe.jpg Here’s to a happy Friday! Friday Favorites -Copper Edition

Copy of Copy of Copy of Friday (4)

Hello Friday!

Today we are going to show you one of our favorites in home décor. It’s this seasons superstar metal.  COPPER! Some people aren’t a fan but I for one think it’s stunning.  I’m the girl who would buy a set of copper pots and hang them in the kitchen.  But let’s think about fun and unusual ways to use it… like a copper farm sink!  Here are some ideas to incorporate into your home if you are a lover of copper.

1. Copper bathroom fixture, bathtubs and sinks.

2. Copper artworks and wall decorations, including copper sheets in various shades, wall clocks and mirror frames.

3. Copper paint colors and modern wallpaper designs in copper colors.

4. Room furniture upholstery fabrics and decor accessories made with fabrics in copper colors.

5. Room furniture, chairs and coffee tables made of copper.

6. Copper lighting fixtures.

7. Copper kitchen accents, kitchenware, handles and kitchen fixtures.

8. Copper vases and candle holders

If copper is something that you are drawn to, go for it!  Don’t worry about whether or not the trend will come and go. As said by Billy Baldwin, “Be faithful to your own taste, because nothing you really like is ever out of style.

1. CLEAN IT and then CLEAN IT some more!

A clean kitchen is a happy kitchen.  And trust me the kitchen is one of the most important rooms in your home. Even if you’re not a cook, the next owner might be.  They want to be able to imagine themselves cooking up a Food Network quality meal and serving it to their ever thankful family.  They want to picture holidays with lots of people crowding in and around all the aromas.  They want to picture long talks over coffee with their children or spouse.  See how important the kitchen is now?

So where do we begin? Scrub everything!  Wipe out the drawers.  Polish your sink and get in all tiny grooves to make it look as new as possible.  Use a non-scratch cleaner like Soft Scrub to really make it sparkle. Make your oven and stove shine. Wipe your cabinets – they do get greasy and dirty. If you have stainless appliances, be sure they’re polished and have no fingerprints.  Make sure the garbage is removed and there’s no lingering odors.  A good tip is to cut up a lemon and run it through the garbage disposal prior to showing.  Makes it smell fresh and clean.   Make sure you’ve run the dishwasher and it’s empty.  No one wants to look in the dishwasher and see dirty dishes.  Wipe down and clean out the refrigerator while you’re at it.  If you have tile counters, make sure the grout it clean. You can easily touch up grout with a grout pen or sprinkle baking soda on it, spray with white vinegar and scrub with a brush.  It cleans really well! Make sure your floor is super clean! Remove excess rugs.  Limit your floors to one rug.

Don’t neglect the inside of your cupboards and drawers. If they’re chock full of stuff you’re sending a message to the buyer you don’t have enough storage space. Definitely not a good thing!   Start packing up all the items you won’t need on a daily basis. And while you’re at it, don’t forget to organize the pantry.  Make those shelves look like grocery store shelves! Toss random items into baskets or bins to make it look more tidy and organized.

Decluttering is probably one of the hardest aspects of staging for sellers. It’s hard to put away all the “stuff” you’re so use to seeing on a daily basis and that you use on a daily basis. But my thought is, I’d rather get my toaster out each time I use it and have a SOLD sign in my front yard!  Pack away cute collectable items, magnets, calendars, silk plants, and countertop appliances. If you’re gonna leave one appliance out choose your favorite -for most people that’s the coffee pot. Hee hee.

The easiest way to start the process  of decluttering is to completely clear off your counters, then only put back a few decorative items to fill in and soften the corners or a long expanse of countertop.

Once you’ve decluttered, begin to decorate like a decorator.  Not sure how to do that?  Don’t think about what you like personally, think about what makes it most appealing to a buyer.  Add just enough decor to make the room come alive but not overwhelm it.  When they see neat and tidy with trendy little touches here and there it makes them think about it staying that way when they live there or gives them ideas on how they could add to it. And our favorite… FRESH FLOWERS.  There’s never been a better reason to buy yourself flowers than to help sell your home. There – we helped you justify the splurge.  Make sure if you do this that they are changed out weekly and always look fresh, with clean water for showings.

A fresh coat of paint in the kitchen is a quick and easy way to refresh the space.  Again, think about colors a buyer would enjoy.  Just because you love bright blue doesn’t mean a buyer will.  Think neutral tones that are light and bring a brightness to the room. Also, consider replacing outdated light fixtures, old kitchen faucets and cabinet hardware.

Neutral Tones – We can’t gush enough about gray okay?  It’s all about that gray,  bout that gray, no pur-ple.  All joking aside, neutral tones bring a peaceful atmosphere to any room and also make it easier to show when it comes time to sell.  Check out this article from Studio M to see some great neutral interior design.

Pops of Color – Okay I know we just said neutral is on point, however a pop of color mixed into those neutrals gives a room life.  Think pillows, throws, flowers, lamps etc.  Not too much though cuz we aren’t going for circus theme, just a happy splash.  Check out these examples from deocor8blog.

Have you seen the new “wood look” ceramic tile?  What do you think?  This type of flooring has become one of the hottest new trends in home flooring.  Thanks to the advancements in manufacturing wood look ceramic tile looks so real that many people cannot tell it’s not real wood. Matcha Tea – Ahhhh what can you say about Matcha besides, YUM?!  Okay well I guess you could say a few things besides yum, but trust me, if you have one you’re gonna start craving another.  The gals make fun of me because I think it has a sorta fish tank flavor… yeah I know that’s totally weird, right? But honestly it’s more like an earthy, sweetness that reminds you of your favorite Japanese restaurant. I can’t get enough of this stuff.  My Dad even bought me some serious ceremonial grade tea with the whisk and cool little matcha bowl to go with it. I’m kinda of obsessed with this stuff.  So besides being super yummy in a totally unique way, what’s the big deal about matcha?

Matcha is a finely milled green tea and has been used in traditional Japanese tea ceremonies since the 12th century.  It has surged in popularity recently due to its visual appeal, health benefits and beautifully distinct flavor. It’s high in antioxidants, improves memory and concentration, increases energy levels and endurance and also somehow has a calming effect to it too.  How cool is that?  I know that my mornings are extra special when I whisk up some matcha.  If you’d like to give it a try without going through all the hubbub you can always grab a green tea latte at Starbucks – but be aware theirs is yummy, but full of sugar.  All in all it’s a great way to see if you enjoy the unique flavor that everyone is seeking to fill their cup with.  Let us know if you try it and what you think!

Okay I’m seriously swooning over this cute t-shirt representing our sweet side of the mountains.  Who doesn’t love a little state camaraderie? I mean if Texas can be in love with their sweet tea lovin’ state we can be in love with our mountain bike lovin’ side of Colorado right?

This year The Downtown Music Festival has combined with the  Grand Junction Off-Road Mountain biking event to create the biggest downtown event of the year! With 18 bands, 3 stages, a 4-block beer garden, a bike and gear expo, local food trucks and kids activities at 6th and Main! And guess what?  You can get this super cute swag there! Get your #‎WestSlopeBestSlope tee shirt any time between May 20-22 at the Downtown booth which will be located at 5th & Main.
This is Downtown Grand Junction’s biggest event of the year and it all starts tonight!
How cute is this bag? If you hadn’t noticed yet, sea foam is the color of the season.  I should know… I’m about to paint my teenage daughters room this color and that means it’s cool, right? Ahhh, in all seriousness this tote is great because there are FIVE different ways to wear it, it’s functional so you can fit half your life in it (cuz we all do) and the color will compliment many different outfits and your soon to be summer tanned self. This tote goes from weekdays to weekend easily. It has a secure slide-through closure, it features a matching pouch (that doubles as a clutch!) and functional cross-body strap (that can be worn 4 ways!) It’s also available several fresh colors for spring/summer.  You can get it here…
I don’t know about you but my house as a child always had fresh potted plants.  My mom was able to make them thrive and it always gave the house a clean and fresh appeal with a beautiful splash of color.  Cue the 90’s and everybody seemed to gravitate towards silk plants.  -ick. Now I probably should also lean towards silk as well since I don’t totally have a green thumb but I’m all about learning new things so about a month ago I went out and bought 4 plants and 2 big outdoor planters full of flowers.  As of now they are all thriving!  I can feel my thumb getting greener!  Check out the great article from to improve your skills with house plants so that you too can bring some life and color to your home.
